You must be assimilated.

IN the news today it is said that Adobe is buying Macromedia. Any thoughts.

  • That's pretty exciting news. Immediately, i wonder how that would change the way you draw vector graphics in flash. my co-worker, who illustrates mainly in Photoshop and Illustrator hates drawing in Flash. I also have a tough time working with some of the drawing tools. i'm much more likely to use Photoshop than anything else.
More significantly, though, will be the marriage of Adobe GoLive and Dreamweaver i would think.
Whatever happens it's going to be a pretty powerful and expansive 'Suite' if they continue to release it that way.

  • I think that Macromedia has acquired key tools that Adobe needs. Most visible is Flash. Adobe has produced similar technologies but none have ever gotten as far. Likewise, GoLive appears to be an also ran against Dreamweaver (although personally I've never found Dreamweaver fast enough for real use).

Adobe buying Macromedia will be great for users in about a year or so since Adobe's products useability is way better than Macromedia's.

Even though people who are used to bezier curves and whatnot may not like the Flash drawing experience, I wouldn't be surprised if someday there was a beginners drawing interface very similar to Flashes interface. Being able just to drag a side of a square out for roundness or move a corner that keeps its cornerness is something that makes 2D drawing easy and fun.
