How not to honor fallen soldiers.

SCENE: Me, Brian, Mindy and Juan across the street from their townhouse on the lawn of an abandoned church playing croquet on Memorial Day. A car drives slowly past.

Teenage kid in car: "Ya'll fuckin' suck!"

Mindy: "I don't think soldiers died so he could do that."

5 Comments:

  • "I don't think our soldiers died so you could let your dog bark all night."

"I don't think our soldiers died so you could spraypaint the costa rica bridge all night"

"I don't think our soldiers died so you could make fun of me."

Actually, i think that's precisely why they are dying, if you want to think of it in those terms(although, not necessarily related to our mission in iraq): to preserve america. In america, i can tell you how much of an idiot you are and risk getting beat up by a black belt who loves to play croquet. In america, we can do all the wonderful, rude, pleasant, and degrading things we want - within the law. God Bless America.

  • Seasonal Guilt Trips!

    Memorial Day: "I don't think soldiers died so . . ."

Christmas: "Santa will put you on the naughty list if . . ."

    Fourth of July " . . . isn't patriotic!"

Man, I miss playing croquet. I haven't played since I was a kid. My sisters and I would play with my grandparents ancient set in their vast backyard in Shreveport. I should get a set so we can play down at the park.

  • What my sister said was a -- to borrow a term -- "fuckin'" joke. Don't get your manpanties all in wads.

Regardless, that kid deserves a good beating. I'll set up an elaborate croquet trap for him.

It was a fun game. Brian and I beat Mindy and Juan, but only because Brian is an awesome player.

  • Mindy is your sister?! Holy Crap-ola, i had no idea!

As for my horribly incongruous comment to such an obvious joke ... i can only say that i must have been in a horribly defensive mood. i did, after all spend my memorial day with my brother-in-law (who i have to try really hard to get along with) ... the residual affects last about a day or two...
