  • I dropped by the Apple Store today and visited with the new units. The keyboard is interesting; it reminds me of the Cassie Prototype Keyboard, only the area around the keys is part of the case. The little oblong hole next to the IR receiver is the sleep light. The trackpad is nice and wide--I have a feeling or hope that they do some interesting things with that. Two fingered scrolling is made much easier by the width. I like how they replaced the latch with a strong magnet. The old flip-down latches were unobtrusive but sometimes felt cheesy. I'm not certain how I feel about the glossy screen. I like that they have all the ports on one side (one of the minor conveniences the PB 12 had over the iBook). I think the extra width is going to be nice for palettes.

  • Oh, some stuff I forgot but remembered as I did a Flickr tour:
The feet are now rounded so they don't catch on stuff and get ripped off--I can't believe it took them until now to do this.
The battery is huge and reminds me of the old toilet-seat iBooks in the way it stretches across the front.
