Ron Paul for President

Ron Paul is an interesting alternative to the lies and corporate interests of the mainstream candidates. He's the only one who I've heard speak so far who actually seems honest and independent in his thinking (big stress on thinking, it's rare). Check out this video on Youtube and decide for yourself:

Anthony and I would be very interested in hearing about ways to help support him and get his message out... Let us know if any of you are doing any campaigning for him or if you know of any other way to help out. I'm subscribing to his weekly e-mails from his website and just trying to find out more about him for now. Hillary and Obama aren't going to make any major changes, and I think what we need right now is someone who thinks outside the current system.

  • I sent the above comment to a friend of mine, and this was his response:

He is right on Iraq and the corporatization of American politics, but
he is also a wacko conservative. The libertarian ideal is not only
impossible, but perhaps quite dangerous. If the issue of our federal
governance is the social contract, which I believe it is, then Dennis
Kucinich has much better policy prescriptions. An honest liberal
president is what we need. I leave it up to you to decide who matches
    that qualification best.

  • Amber,

You should work for Ron Paul if you like what he has to say. Your friend is mistaken in characterizing him as a conservative. (I can't comment on the wacko part) Libertarianism and conservatism are very different schools of political thought. I happen to agree that certain aspects of the Libertarian platform are potentially dangerous, but since Paul has absolutely no chance of making it to the White House, you shouldn't worry about that.

  • I believe I have to agree with Ethan,

Any minor player has no chance. Maybe that sounds hopeless...but I have stopped looking to the government for real change. Only the main runners have any chance of reclaiming the throne. Any minor characters take votes and weaken the chances of getting a Democrat back in.

If you are voting only so that it can be noted in future campaigns that people are interested in the ideas that the minor characters offer then it is a good thing.

It's good to help getting the ideas out there so that people can have the discussions and minds can slowly turn. But as far as the one vote.
Only the Stars will be allowed to shine.

Local action seems to be where our support makes a difference. Where pushing ideas can actually take hold and grow.

Paul is the only person I know who has put himself directly into the political arena....he would be good to talk to.
