Hi everyone,

I know I'm a terrible keeper-in-toucher. Anyway, I hope everyone's doing well. Not much has changed for me: I'm still in Hannover, still working on my dissertation... Ari's starting school this year. Karin's still busy as ever as a teacher. I'm still happy to be where I am and to be doing what I'm doing, but I'm looking forward to some changes too (especially being through with the PhD).

On another note: anyone able to watch the UEFA European cup going on? I'm not exactly the biggest soccer fan in the world, but it's been exciting to follow the matches. I suspect Germany will lose out to Portugal tonight... Any picks for the winner? Netherlands?

And on yet another note: a short essay of mine, "Techno-Habitats and Media Habits: Reflections on Contemporary Children's Television," came out today in an Australian online journal (here). Another essay, "Re-Embodying the Sonographic Experience," came out in the same journal in December (you can reach it through the "Archives" link, issue 11). I'm starting to think of these as part of an incipient series (maybe "Techno-Phenomenology for Parents"). Take a look if you get a chance, and let me know what you think.

Take care, and I'll try to keep in touch a little better.

Shane

  • Shane! It is so nice to hear from you! Glad to hear that y'all are truckin along in the Germany!

I have been watching Euro2008. It has been a really exciting tournament so far! I too felt that Portugal might topple Germany, but instead Germany kicked Portugal's ass! What a great game! I credit Schweinsteiger, he added energy to the German attack that team seemed to lack in the group phase (notably when Gomez was in the game...)

Right now I would pick the Dutch to take the whole thing; They are playing such beautiful blitzkrieg football. Of course, Spain is looking pretty fabulous too. But then again anything could happen and we could very well see a standard Italy/Germany final again...

Saludos to family and please do keep in touch!!

  • Yeah, what a game! It was hard to believe it when I saw it, and harder to believe this morning that I didn't dream the whole thing! This whole thing is getting more and more exciting. I have to admit I've gotten swept up in the quasi-patriotic pride and hope for the German team, but I still agree that the Dutch are the most probable winners. Who knows, though?

Anyway, great to hear from you too, Paul!

Stuff is looking great. All the teams I thought were gonnan sweep it haven't.

Russia has been a big suprise...To everyone I think...but the way they played their last game they seem to have a solid chance.

Thanks for letting us know where we can catch up on your brainy work...

All my best to you and your family.
