Has anybody checked out

Skype? or SkypeOut

I think the primary reason why I didn't go for Skype over Vonage is that Skype is very feature-lean. Unless you have some mechanism on your local computer, then you don't have voicemail.

So far, I think that our experiment with Vonage has been largely successful. If you do a lot of office-hours long distance and can handle a connection that id dependant on your cable company, then it is great.

I think the whole VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) thing has solved the "sounds like tin-can and wires" and is still evolving how it interacts with the POTS (Plain Old Telephone System).
