Mambo, locally with Thanks to Paul

Last night, paul helped me develop the ability to work with a Mambo template locally. I was a little overwhelmed; the string of words 'starting a web server' is pretty much the beginning of confusion for me. While i can understand the words, deeper meaning is lost on me. Luckily, there are lots of utilities out there for someone like me. In this case MAMP did the trick (with major help from paul in setting it up.)

The abbreviation MAMP stands for: Macintosh, Apache, Mysql and PHP.
With just a few mouse-clicks, you can install Apache, PHP and MySQL for Mac OS X!

Now, i'll be able to spend my Mangum Manor hours fiddling with the css, php, and html docs to customize the template.

  • you know that is not the whole story adolph. did you put it on the PB or the iMac? if you get it running on the iMac that should make a fine webserver.

  • the idea is to tinker with the templates locally and then push them up to the live mambo server, hosted remotely somewhere, right ?

  • yep, that's the idea paul. exactly. is there something i should be aware of before i start?

  • todd: no, i gave the imac to my sister who desperately needed a computer at home (so she said.) Carol is clamoring for her own computer though....

...so i gave her a baby.
    ha!
