Dear Griffin Technology

Dear Griffin Technology,

If you would please make an iSight to iPod connector I would very much appreciate it.

The iSight to iPod connector would:
* Put iPod in disk mode.
* Accept DV signal from iSight.
* Store iSight DV signal into a named folder on the iPod.
* Have a start/stop button.
* Have a disk full indicator.
* Connect the iSight to the iPod in a handy way.
* Be able to connect the iSight to the iPod via a long Firewire cable as an option.

The iSight probably has greater power requirements than your iTrip, so the connector would have to have a battery of some sort. That isn't ideal, but the handiness of the connector would be worth it. I would buy one for $50-70 as soon as they are available. I'm certain that many other people would as well.

Thank you for your attention to this matter,

Adolph Trudeau

  • Dear Mr. Trudeau,

    While your comments are appreciated, don't you have any friends? Any one of them might have suggested to to you that a video device with no clear way of 'previewing' what you would see regardless of how handy it might be would be a big minus for a lot of people. Besides, have you seen the quality of dv that comes from something like an isight?

    Further, it is quite clear from your letter that more than likely your friends miss hanging out with you. What kind of time do you have to think of such a silly device?

    May we kindly suggest an evening out with a close friend, maybe involving some of the following:

    * Beer
    * Darts
    * A game of soccer
    * An Xbox Console

    Sincerely,

  • Haha Killy,

    I was actually thinking of a monitor when I posted the email. I had written it last week and left it in drafts and reconsidered it before I emailed it and posted it. I think the idea of the iSight to iPod connector is to make something super-simple, not something like this.

    In any case, it is a long weekend for me coming up and aside from geeking out to ms150.org improvements, I would like to get my game on for many hours. Maybe I can get you and Wes over for some Halo action. I wouldn't mind bringing the xbox up there if that is what it would take to get some fragging going on.

    your dear fiend,
    Adolph

  • Oh, and I forgot to modify the letter to include any DV stream device. MCE Technologies has a hard drive device that records from a DV camera. While this is nice, it isn't as handy or as inexpensive as using a hard drive you already have and it can't power an iSight up.

  • I got a reply from Griffin Tech!

    Hello,

    Great idea but when can make whales play the violin then we will be able to
    tell Apple how to design there products to fit our products. It is totally
    up to Apple to implement these changes in the design and function of the
    iPod. We will follow suit and design peripheral devices once Apple can
    design a product that will support our dream products. Contact Apple and let
    them know what you want to see in a product and perhaps they will take that
    into consideration in the next design change of the iPod. Good luck! Apple
    does have a forum for customer input so it really may be worth your while to
    let them know what you are thinking about.

    Best regards Randall
