  • howdy Shane! long overdue congratulations on your lovely family.

human - technological interfaces huh? i know what those words mean but i cannot figure out if you are writing about GUIs or cyborgs. either is pretty interesting but TV tells me cyborgs are where the action is.

nice to hear from you again.

  • todd, yeah it's more about cyborgs than GUIs, but the latter are not irrelevant either. Part of what I want to do is to contextualize the cultural studies cyborg-discourses (which I find really interesting) in relation to more mundane and above all material interactions between (human) bodies and technologies--not just cognitive and intellectual relations but affective and non-conscious interactions interest me. Above all in relation to film spectatorship. Special effects are important here, but these spectacular displays have to be brought into relation to all sorts of other less obvious interactions, and especially when we get to digital effects, they have to be related back to GUIs and the pervasiveness of computers generally.

Nice to hear from you too.
