Apparent Light Size

More practice. This time with hot wheels. I didn't have to spend much time trying to hunt for a toy, i just looked down and there it was. It was a quick set up and even faster shoot.

I was hoping to get outside tonight. It's foggy and cool stuff happens when it's foggy.

PhotoFrustration #3: I am missing a close up filter. I am also missing a lens cap. Also, i need a replacement battery holder for a Vivitar 285.

BLAH Day, Part 2

Amber McCarthy and Fraser Cardeau

So i sat in front of the computer today and took care of unfinished business: Amber, Adolph and Fraser. From a strictly photographic perspective, this can be made much better in so many ways. (Perhaps i will get the chance to do so in the future. Ha!)

Unfortunately, it wasn't the only thing i had to do in front of the computer: I'm on call this weekend and the morning started off with a deluge of phone calls regarding electronic orders. I spent entirely too long going back and forth with our development team and longer trying to get ahold of users.

PhotoFrustration #2: I need a decent monitor to edit photos. If anyone has a gently used monitor lying around that they would sell i would appreciate it.

Kind of a BLAH day

Today was unseasonably warm, humid and drizzly; so what did i do? I photographed my compost pile. Practice wherever i can get it.

PhotoFrustration #1: Equipment. My old Nikon 24 is not sharp. I need a new, made for digital, wide lens. How about this one?

Carolina Chavez

And then there is Carol who has settled comfortably into Household CEO and Project Manager rather well. She keeps us all miraculously well fed, dressed and mostly clean; and fortunately for me, she makes for a rather outstanding model when the kids are sick and tired of standing for daddy.

... and so when someone mentions they need photographs, I make a project of it. Amber Freda Landscaping is now spreading its wings and providing interior design services, so when they put out a facebook shoutout for aloe pictures for a potential client, Project Aloe was born.

So here is one example of what i came up with.

As an aside, i should point out that part of my objective is be able to create images purely in camera with as little photoshopping tweaking as possible. So there ya go, organic photography with no additives or preservatives or added hormones.

New Years Resolutions

Another thing i've been doing is photographing. Part NY resolution, part necessity, part passion - i find myself back behind the camera. Most frustrating is the discovery that i am having to relearn everything that i hardly knew anyway.

So i am practicing. Here is me working with an off camera sb-600 and an umbrella to balance flash and daylight.

So if you find yourself in front of my camera, please be nice.

We've also been playing with Legos. Lots and lots of Legos. Adolfo's newest acquisition, which he purchased with Xmas money, was a ninja set. I had no idea there were Lego Ninjas.

Adolfo, who is a bigger authority on the subject will give you his take:

i have the lego ninja on the picture! i love it!! i will put it in my collection.....................................................of lego people! do you see the bow & arrow on the back of the lego ninja? it is connected to the hat. i have lego space ships (13 in., 14 ft (up)) that are powered by a lego motor ($4.99)! see it if you really really really really can!

So there ya go. That's what is in Adolfo's head.

Interesting few weeks

So my sister and my sister-in-law are both pregnant - M checked into the hospital shortly after new year's because she started having contractions 5 weeks too soon, baby was half baked - docs drugged her up real good and sent her home to rest - enter Carolina - i've been going to her house and spending the night to help her keep her house in order, to ensure she eats well and to help with the kids - yeah, dad is there, but there is only so much a working man can do - so i'm happy that i am able to help her out...
L checked out of work for maternity leave only to find herself waiting around the clean house, sighing and bored out of her brain because bb is not ready to come out - enter Carolina - she travels to my part of the world often enough to keep her mind in bright pink colors and i do the same for her
I don't have a job but I find myself overwhelmed at this time...i'd established a nice little routine for my little mama girl and was able to dedicate a full hour (broken into bits) to give "lessons" in preparation for real school that's coming up - and now i find my house is not as orderly as i'd like it to be and my garden hasn't gotten started...
can't wait for both babies to be in this world so that I can get back to my regularly scheduled program...
also
i was almost going to be a nanny
it didn't work out though - it seems the gramma that was involved got jealous and then demanded money from the daughter arguing, if you're going to pay a stranger to do this, then pay me...
on the other hand
i am diving headlong into sustainable food shopping and meal planning
it's my thing
it's quite a challenge - but it's a good one that i am excited about for my kiddoes
what's up with you?
